Sixth Annual BC Beef Day Celebration

May 28, 2015 (Kamloops, B.C.) – BC Cattlemen’s Association is excited to join our industry partners and the BC Government on the lawns of the legislature in Victoria, B.C. today to mark the sixth annual BC Beef Day. This is a day to celebrate the valuable contributions of the B.C. cattle industry to our environment and our economy. It is also a day to engage in dialogue with the BC government about how we can continue to strengthen ranching in B.C.

“We have a lot to celebrate this year with a strong market backing our B.C. ranchers,” says Lary Fossum, BCCA President and Dawson Creek area rancher. “After a decade of downturn in cattle prices, last fall cattle saw those prices turnaround and we are looking forward to a bright and sustainable future for beef production in B.C.”

“Going forward, the beef industry has great potential for growth and we believe the opportunity to grow our beef production is now,” says Kevin Boon, BCCA General Manager. “We need government support to ensure that legislation and red tape do not create unnecessary added costs to ranchers that are in turn passed on to the consumer.”

We are confident that there are significant opportunities to grow the BC beef industry and this success can only be achieved through our continued partnership with government.

RECIPE: Korean Beef Kabobs

Korean Beef Kabobs.jpgStewing Beef on the barbecue – who would have thought you could do that? You have to try this recipe to believe it!

¼ cup soy sauce
1 green onion, chopped
2 tbsp (30 mL) EACH vegetable oil, sherry and cornstarch
1 tbsp (15 mL) packed brown sugar
1 tsp (5 mL) EACH grated ginger root, sesame oil and sweet Asian chili sauce
1 lb (500 g) Beef Stewing Cubes, trimmed


1. Combine soy sauce, onion, garlic, vegetable oil, sherry, cornstarch, brown sugar, ginger root, sesame oil and chili sauce in large sealable freezer bag. Add beef.

2. Marinate in refrigerator for 30 to 60 minutes. Discard marinade and thread meat onto soaked wooden skewers.

3. Grill in closed barbecue over medium-high heat (400°F/200°C) for 4 to 5 minutes on both sides or until browned but slightly pink inside.
